In a collaboration with Ariadne Labs, a laboratory for health systems innovation, we are conducting a randomized controlled trial of a novel, multi-component intervention, the Serious Illness Communication Program, designed to enhance quality of life, peacefulness, and goal-consistent care in patients with cancer, heart disease, and other illnesses. We have demonstrated that the intervention is feasible and acceptable to patients and physicians and are beginning to examine our key outcomes.
